Lease Ride Dec. 4th - Training Journal Entry #6

Sindri was very good but he definitely is questioning my judgement 😂

We did walk/trot only and worked a bit on dressage.

He stood very well at the mounting block for me and he didn't walk away when I got on (victory!)

We started with our normal warmup, doing lots or walk to trot transitions and staying soft through them, we also worked on circles and changing direction across the diagonal. We tried the Intro A dressage test just to see where he was at with it and what would need the most work, and he stayed pretty straight up the center line but lost some straightness in the walk transition, and he wanted to trot during the walk part. After we picked the trot up again he did a really good circle bending around my leg and it was overall a really arcuate circle. When we trotted up the diagonal to change directions he got very quick and the circle at the top kind of fell apart because of that. Our walk transition was good and our free walk down the diagonal was good as well and the he was pretty straight going up the center line.

very pretty 😍

What I took from this is....

Our first walk transition going up the centerline needs some work and staying soft and not anticipating the trot transition.

We need to work on staying soft through the second half and not getting quick (that will straighten out our circle up top)

He definitely didn't understand why we didn't canter so I think that could be part of the reason he got quick in the second half of the test.

walking back to the barn

He also had a cut on his front right leg coming in from the pasture so I wiped it off and put some ointment on it before I rode to keep the mud out of it and the I re-cleaned and treated it before he went in his stall for the night.
