Lesson Jan. 5th 2026 - Lease Ride Jan. 6th 2026 Training journal Entry #18 + #19

 Monday -

We had our lesson on monday, we worked on doing the jump courses for the show on Saturday.

We started by warming up walking around sitting a lap and the we went into 2-point for a lap, and then we trotted, one lap posting, one lap sitting, and one lap in 2-point. We changed direction and did the same thing the other way. He was very soft through his neck at the trot, and consistent. My sitting trot with him has also improved a lot and I could make it a full lap both ways.

After we warmed up walk trot we cantered both ways, starting to the right, he was very nice about staying consistent and bending to the inside.

Once we were all warmed up we started courses, all the jumps were set to x-rails but two of them were bigger x-rails. We just started by trotting into the first one and ended up trotting the rest of the course because he didn't care about the jumps at all, so then the next course I trotted in and picked up canter about halfway through the course, in the boomerang line.

We struggled the most in the boomerang line because he wouldn't land his lead and i kept riding to far in for the turn.

We set the jumps up to 18'' for the last corse, the two jumps that were set as big cross rails got set to 2' and 2'3'' and Jenna told me to focus on ridning the first of the boomerang line like it was a drop fence into water on xc, so that i would sit up and be able to ride the turn for the boomerang line better. I was so focused on sitting up and being able to plan for my line, that i completely forgot to ride my line... It wasn't horrible but it wasn't great.

I was definitely focusing on riding like Boyd at
Rolex Kentucky at the head of the lake water jump
that I completely forgot to follow my line for the boomerang😂

I'm definitely going to practice the boomerang turn in my lease rides so that we can be ready for Saturday, I'm also going to work on landing my leads so that its one less thing I have to worry about in my courses and turns, because we just kinda rolled with whatever lead he would land.

Lease Ride -

I didn't want to do full courses again, I just wanted to work on a couple of sections of the course that we struggled with, like our boomerang line and coming up the triple to the jump at the top.

I had just gotten the matching saddle pad and halter, it looked really cute on him!!

Our warm up was very nice, we trotted on a looser rein then normal, and he wasn't bracing through his neck, a couple of times he was stretching down, and he had good bend on our circles. Our canter was very nice as well, he rounded into his frame very nicely and had great bend, probably one of our best canters.

After we warmed up we started by just trotting through the boomerang line, so that we could plan out where our turn was going to be, and then we cantered it. We actually cantered it really well, and our turn was so much better, and it made the second part ride really well.
Only got the second part on video, but you can see how much better
the second one rode once once we found the line we needed.

After we worked on the boomerang line we did a different line that started with the same jump that the boomerang line did but we had to turn up to the middle jump of the triple. It was a line i wanted to do because you have to turn out before the last jump of the triple, and when the jumps are bigger on Saturday it'll make the line I have to ride really tight, so i just worked on riding the line i would need for when we have the jumps.

We might have to go a bit wider in our turn for this one...

I will probably clean Sindris tack on thursday after I ride so that its ready for the show on Saturday. It will be warm on friday so I'll coordinate with Jenna about timing but I was hoping to be able to give Sindri a bath as well. Normally for winter jumper shows it's too cold to give the horses baths so we have to take advantage of the warmer weather and make our horses look extra good on Saturday.

We also got to help create the theme for the jumper show, our height has the color theme of navy, so I was planning on using my new saddle pad that is navy and has a silvery blue piping to it.
